Sandie Newton:
Despite the pandemic, this past Mother’s Day was a very special one for one local woman. Her son gifted her with the internet domain site for sanitizer.co. Now, some moms might question the unusual gesture, but entrepreneur and successful business woman, Anna Miller, knew just what to do with a new gift. She’s created unique products to sell online before, so she got to work starting an online resource for items designed to protect us from COVID-19. It’s her silver lining.

Anna Miller:
I’ve been an eCommerce entrepreneur for about 25 years, and so getting a domain name for Mother’s Day gift sounds a little like a little bit of a quirky gift but my son knew that if you gave it to me, I’d make something pretty powerful out of it. I just started doing my research and sending off for samples of different sanitizers available and different companies that was manufacturing it, and I wanted something that was FDA approved and perfect before I would even consider it. And I found a local Southern California company that makes sanitizer, and I contracted with them to fill my bottles.

Anna Miller:
I purchased 4,000 bottles, and of the 4,000 I’ve donated to the homeless, probably I’d say 300 or 400 bottles. I also contacted Well in the Desert and for every hundred masks I sell, I’ll donate a hundred to the Well in the Desert. So between the two homeless shelters that I’m familiar with, I hope that starting from the ground up is going to help by giving people that don’t have the money to buy sanitizer an opportunity to help us all work together and kill that nasty disease.

Sandie Newton:
You really created a business that will help so many people and help our community.

Anna Miller:
Well, I really need to thank my son for his vision and insight and his trust in me to know that this would really be something that could make a difference.

Sandie Newton:
Anna is so grateful that she can donate so many safety items to nonprofits in our valley that she’s even offering our viewers a 30% discount when you order online. A little silver lining for all of us. For NBC Cares Silver Linings, I’m Sandy Newton.
